As someone who cares about the craft of programming the discussions around this article didn’t resonate with me: It’s still OK to enjoy programming (HN Thread)
I want software to be high quality. I want the code itself to be high quality. I enjoy programming by hand. I think coding agents are a net good.
Somehow these are aligned for me in a way that doesn’t match the typical online discourse.
Is programming art? Or science? Or a means-to-an-end? Does it reveal some kind of foundational truth? Is it more like cooking? Or like playing an instrument? Or working on a car? Or carpentry? Or running a marathon? Or a puzzle?
It’s not quite like any of these, but it has aspects of each. I’d like to explore this more, but I just wanted to get down the thought.
